How it worksDistributionCrews can collect their GPS tracker up to 48 hours prior to their scheduled start time. At the time of collection the tracker is programed with the crew details, scheduled start time, along with the course geometry. It is important that the correct GPS tracker is fitted to each boat. Once collected the GPS tracker will go into a deep sleep and wake up again1 hour before their scheduled start time and display the Bow Number on the oLed display. During the RaceFifteen minutes before the scheduled start the tracker begins recording high speed GPS and acceleration data into the on-board flash memory. The First task of the GPS tracker is to calculate the time the crew crosses the start line, using both GPS and acceleration data we are accurate to within 0.05 seconds. This data is then transmitted to one of the many base stations that can be located along the side of the river. During the race the GPS tracker is constantly calculating the projected distance to finish line taking into account all the twists and turns of the river. The course can include defined sectors, used for either timing at spectator recognisable landmarks, or used for an omnium event. Live dataOur head raceing configuration supports deploying multiple base stations along the course. These base stations relay live data to the cloud where it is reprocessed before steming back to the Regatta Solutions Spectatos App. The time taken from the GPS tracker measuring the location and speed of the crew, to that data displaying in the app is typically less than 2 seconds. Bulk data offloadWhen the crew crosses the finish line the GPS trackers switch radios to a higher bandwith but shorter range Wi-Fi mode, and begin ofloading the high resolution data that had been collected to flash memory. |
The Coxswain’s ChallengeWe believe we are unique in offer this award. With each crew fitted with an identical GPS tracker, we can offer an award to the coxswain or crew that steer the shortest legal course. Once the high resolution data is offloaded to the cloud each data set is processed to calculate the actual distance traveled between the start and finish lines. All crews are then ranked by distance and the winning coxswain is awarded the prize. |
